Jožef Stefan Institute – Energy Efficiency Centre
Jožef Stefan Institute (JSI) is the leading Slovenian research organisation acting on a broad spectrum of basic and applied research in the fields of natural sciences and technology. It houses around 1050 researchers that specialize in natural sciences, life sciences and engineering. The mission of the JSI is the accumulation and dissemination of knowledge at the frontiers of natural science and technology to the benefit of society at large through the pursuit of education, learning, research, and development of high technology at the highest international levels of excellence. In the last year the Institute was involved in 248 international projects, 98 were within the EU framework projects.
Energy Efficiency Centre (JSI – EEC) is an independent centre within the Jožef Stefan Institute. JSI – EEC is engaged in R&D and consulting in the field of integrated resource planning, energy policy, energy and resource efficiency, management and analysis of energy data, waste heat utilisation, renewable energy, GHG mitigation, energy management and environmental protection issues. The R&D work of the JSI – EEC is an important contribution to the preparation of key documents in Slovenia in the field of energy development, energy efficiency, RES exploitation and the transition of Slovenian to a climate neutral society. Through involvement in the preparation of key strategic energy policy documents in Slovenia (National energy and climate plan, National energy efficiency action plan, National renewable energy action plan, National strategy for building energy renovation etc.) the JSI – EEC has a very good overview of the current situation in building and energy sector and maintained excellent links with many stakeholders from public sector, energy utilities, energy service companies and industry. The JSI – EEC recent work is also focused on the research on energy systems integration and optimization, comprehensive performance monitoring, design of intelligent energy management systems and GIS heat mapping & planning. The JSI – EEC leads EUREM (European Energy Managers) training program for energy managers in Slovenia and it significantly contributes to an increase in competitiveness of the Slovenian industry. Since 2008 twelve EUREM trainings have been carried out so far in Slovenia and 244 energy managers have successfully finished the training.
The motivation of JSI – EEC to participate in the Energy Efficiency Experts project is connected with the development of advanced and innovative teaching materials which will support transition of Slovenia and entire EU towards the climate neutral society. We strongly believe that exchange of ideas and knowledge about implementation of innovative energy solutions in buildings have a potential to significantly improve overall resource efficiency and trigger comprehensive renovation of buildings at the EU level.
